I’m Niamh O’Connor, the Social Democrats Councillor for Cork City South Central.
I live near Barrack St with my husband and our two small kids and I, very stereotypically, really love Cork City.
I went to school in Turners Cross, studied law in UCC and I currently work as a solicitor in the city centre so my whole life is contained within a very small footprint on the southside of the city.
I know my community and I love living here, but I am not blind to the challenges the city faces. From vacancy and dereliction and poor public transport to a lack of basic infrastructure like toilets, water fountains and green spaces, there is a lot of room for Cork City to improve. I believe that the City Council could be doing a lot more to address those challenges and improve the lives of people across the City and I intend to be a voice for progress and change during my time on the Council.
I believe that fostering a sense of community and social responsibility is the best way to create a more inclusive and equal society for all.
