The Role
The Regional Organiser plays a key role in building and strengthening the party’s presence outside Dublin and will be responsible for the Midlands-North-West constituency. They will be responsible for engaging with members and activists, supporting local branches, and driving political campaigns at a regional level. The Regional Organiser roles are newly created requiring strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills and will play a key role in building the party across Ireland.
Responsibilities include:
Campaign Coordination:
- Ensure the activities of the branches support the objective of the party and are aligned with party strategy, other party structures, and the work of the Social Democrats elected representatives.
Membership & Activism:
- Identify, engage, support and work with activists, members and public representatives to promote the Social Democrats locally and nationally.
- Organise training sessions and events to develop grassroots activism.
- Strengthen communication between members, representatives, and party leadership.
Branch Development & Support:
- Develop and implement plans to engage with and empower membership through the branch network.
- Establish and support local branches, ensuring they are active and well-organised.
- Engage with third-level students, members, and supporters, to establish and develop societies in third-level institutions.
Administrative & Logistical Duties:
- Work with the organising team to prepare, develop and print all necessary materials and merchandising.
- Maintain accurate records of party activities, events, and membership growth.
- Ensure the branches and branch officers are fully compliant with statutory requirements and party rules and procedures.
- Carry out other administrative or organisational tasks at the request of the National Organiser or General Secretary.
Essential skills & experience:
- Strong knowledge of Irish politics and the party’s policies and values.
- Experience in political organising, campaigning, or community activism.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to mobilise volunteers and build grassroots networks.
- Strong organisational and strategic planning abilities.
- Proficiency in digital campaigning tools and social media is an advantage.
- Full clean driving licence and access to transport preferred.
- Experience of organising; including building contact lists, data gathering and analysis, and developing campaigns.
- Experience of organising volunteers and recruiting new members.
- Capacity to exercise judgement and initiative within a politically sensitive environment.
- Self-starter mentality.
- Alignment of values with Social Democracy.
Beneficial skills & experience:
Ability to craft compelling messaging, whether through newsletters, social media posts, or emails, to engage supporters and communicate key points.
Ability to work as part of a team, under pressure and achieving targets within a given deadline.
Ability to research and read poll data.
Terms & Conditions:
- The salary for this role starts at €44,000 and will be primarily remote working.
- Pension contribution: up to 6% matched contribution.
- Annual Leave days: 25 days.
- This is a full-time position with a 35-hour working week, requiring flexibility to accommodate evening and weekend commitments as required.
- This is a fixed term contract aligned with the current term of Dáil Éireann.
- You will work remotely but will regularly travel throughout Ireland to engage with local communities, attend events, hold meetings, and collaborate with branches.
- You will report to the National Organiser.
