What does it say about our goal to progress women’s sports when we stumble at the simplest  barriers?

Cancelling the Munster Camogie final a mere 16 hours before the match shows an appalling lack of respect for players, according to Social Democrats TD Sinéad Gibney.

“It’s an insult to these women. The players, the management teams, and everyone around them have invested so much to get to the Munster Final. To cancel the match, a mere 16 hours before throw in, is unacceptable.

“There is a simple solution here, let these athletes play in shorts. Cancelling a game, these players have long been preparing for, at the last minute is an appalling decision.

“Instead of looking out for player welfare, this decision shows a lack of regard for the incredible training regimes these athletes engage in to prepare for big games like this.

“County boards around the country this week ensured games could go ahead with players wearing shorts. There is no reason the same thing could not happen at this game.

“The Waterford and Cork teams should not have to wait for their association to catch up with the 21st century to play this final.
