Paula Mulroe is the Social Democrats Councillor for Clane on Kildare County Council.
A native of County Galway and mother of one, I am a resident of Prosperous in Kildare. I currently serve as the Head of the Department of Humanities at the South East Technological University.
I have been actively involved in local politics for over a decade, serving in various capacities in the Kildare North Branch of the Social Democrats and have worked across several election and referendum campaigns.
I have over two decades of experience in the media and education sectors and fervently uphold the values of public service. In my own area, I’m engaged with several community and sports organisations and have been a member of my local Social Democrats branch since 2015.
I worked for many years as a script editor and drama consultant for film and television productions and understand the transformative power of narrative and storytelling. I believe the soft power of the creative and cultural industries in Ireland has long been misunderstood and suffers from underinvestment.
I am passionate about fostering creativity and innovation in the fields of education and the media. My career has been dedicated to nurturing talent, developing impactful education programmes, and building strong community and industry relationships. I believe in the power of education and collaboration to drive positive change and am committed to working for my community with integrity and vision.
I joined the Social Democrats when it was formed as I wanted to be part of a political party that upholds the values of integrity and is focused on long-term planning, bringing everyone along and not just the party devotees or clientelism that has so often characterised Irish politics.
