Trump is now raving like a murderous zealot, threatening nuclear war and the complete obliteration of the Iranian people
World leaders must intervene as US President Donald Trump threatens to commit war crimes of apocalyptic proportions in Iran, according to Social Democrats Foreign Affairs spokesperson Patricia Stephenson.
Senator Stephenson said:
“The United States and Israel are already committing daily war crimes in Iran – targeting and destroying civilian infrastructure. This is unacceptable and must end. Civilian infrastructure is not a legitimate target and any destruction of it is a war crime under international law.
“However, Trump’s latest threat that “a whole civilisation will die tonight, never to be brought back” is chilling beyond words. To be clear, the only weapon with that instantaneous capability is a nuclear weapon.
“Trump is now raving like a murderous zealot, threatening nuclear war and the complete obliteration of the Iranian people. Moreover, he has the means to make good on this threat and no moral compass that would stop him.
“As Trump degenerates and plumbs the depths of unprecedented depravity, Western world leaders cannot sit silently by. They should be united in strongly condemning Trump and making clear that action will be taken against the United States if the Trump administration continues to commit and threaten war crimes.
“A policy of appeasement and cowardice, in the face of Trump’s escalating barbarous behaviour, has resulted in the American president believing he can do whatever he wants without consequence. That policy must change before the situation gets any worse.
“The media, in its coverage of Trump, should also not sanitise or disguise what is going on and how dangerous it is. The coverage of Trump should be clear that what he is doing, and threatening, are war crimes. There is no doubt about that.”
