Social Democrats Councillor, Ronan Moore, is to work with Meath County Council and local stakeholders to champion the introduction of \u2018Communications Boards\u2019 in county playgrounds and other amenities.<\/p>\n
Communication Boards are primarily a communications support and literacy aid. They are of particular benefit to children or adults who are either pre-verbal\/non-verbal or have communication difficulties.<\/p>\n
The proposal comes on the back of Cllr Moore\u2019s \u2018One Good Idea\u2019 initiative, which ran in recent weeks. Cllr Moore received many ideas and suggestions from the members of the public on ways to make Meath a better place to live in.<\/p>\n
Cllr Moore said:<\/p>\n
\u201cI should not have been surprised by both the quality and variety of ideas I received and it was difficult to decide on the ideas I would focus my energy on. However, one idea that really stood out was the introduction of Communication Boards in county playgrounds and other amenities.<\/p>\n
\u201cCommunication Boards, which can include images that are specific to the playground or amenity where they are located, help bridge a communication gap for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
The idea, which came from a local resident, was inspired by the introduction of Communication Boards by Wexford County Council. The boards are made from aluminium, in full colour digital print, with a 10-year anti-graffiti laminate and hi vis strips on the back. They can be produced in Ireland and are a relatively low-cost opportunity to help further include children and adults with additional needs.<\/p>\n
Cllr Moore added:<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe Meath County Council has always tried to come up with ways to make our county a more inclusive place to live, play and work. While there are some obvious challenges to overcome such as funding, I feel there is a receptiveness to such a proposal.\u201d<\/p>\n
