{"id":12113,"date":"2025-04-14T12:59:46","date_gmt":"2025-04-14T11:59:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.socialdemocrats.ie\/?p=12113"},"modified":"2025-04-14T12:59:46","modified_gmt":"2025-04-14T11:59:46","slug":"public-transport-transformation-urgently-required-to-get-cork-moving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.socialdemocrats.ie\/ga\/public-transport-transformation-urgently-required-to-get-cork-moving\/","title":{"rendered":"Public transport transformation urgently required to get Cork moving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s no time to waste when it comes to upgrading public transport services in Cork, which are currently inadequate, according to Social Democrat\u2019s TD P\u00e1draig Rice.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Rice, who represents the Cork South-Central constituency, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s announcement of the Cork Luas Public Consultation represents a step forward, but we still have miles to go.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCork needs a public transport transformation &#8211; too many buses are delayed or don\u2019t show up at all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCountless commuters are stuck in traffic for exorbitant lengths of time as a result of having no access to a reliable public transport service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need a clear timetable for the Cork Luas. We need a dedicated funding stream. We need the project to progress as quickly as possible &#8211; this shouldn\u2019t take decades.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Niamh O\u2019Connor said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLight rail for Cork was first mooted in the 1970s &#8211; this followed the closure of the tram line in the 1930s.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCork\u2019s transport system needs to reflect the transformation of the city and look towards the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>April 14th, 2025<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There\u2019s no time to waste when it comes to upgrading public transport services in Cork, which are currently inadequate, according to Social Democrat\u2019s TD P\u00e1draig Rice.
