{"id":12270,"date":"2025-04-29T17:06:42","date_gmt":"2025-04-29T16:06:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.socialdemocrats.ie\/?p=12270"},"modified":"2025-04-29T17:06:42","modified_gmt":"2025-04-29T16:06:42","slug":"author-of-grace-report-has-serious-questions-to-answer-after-solicitors-submissions-ignored","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.socialdemocrats.ie\/ga\/author-of-grace-report-has-serious-questions-to-answer-after-solicitors-submissions-ignored\/","title":{"rendered":"Author of Grace report has serious questions to answer after solicitors\u2019 submissions ignored"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is extremely concerning that the author of the Grace report failed to include any reference to legal submissions filed by Grace\u2019s legal team in her final report, according to Social Democrats TD Liam Quaide.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Quaide, who is the party\u2019s disability spokesperson, said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGrace\u2019s whole life has been marked by failure by the State \u2013 most particularly her abandonment in a home where she was subject to serious neglect and known risk of abuse.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere had already been fears that the report of the Farrelly Commission represented yet another failure. It spent 8 years and \u20ac13 million failing to find answers to very basic questions about Grace\u2019s appalling treatment at the hands of the State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, today\u2019s unprecedented intervention by Grace\u2019s legal representative \u2013 stating that extensive submissions made by Grace\u2019s legal team are not reflected in the final report \u2013 significantly increase those fears.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis extremely concerning revelation raises huge questions about the findings of the report; the process involved and the rationale for the State effectively silencing Grace\u2019s voice yet again.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is now imperative that Senior Counsel Marjorie Farrelly, the author of the report, appears before the Oireachtas Committee for Disability Matters at the first available opportunity, along with Minister Norma Foley, to answer questions about this report.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>April 29th, 2025<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is extremely concerning that the author of the Grace report failed to include any reference to legal submissions filed by Grace\u2019s legal team in her final report, according to Social Democrats TD Liam Quaide.
