{"id":12617,"date":"2025-06-04T10:03:18","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T09:03:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.socialdemocrats.ie\/?p=12617"},"modified":"2025-06-04T10:03:18","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T09:03:18","slug":"national-treatment-purchase-fund-must-come-before-public-accounts-committee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.socialdemocrats.ie\/ga\/national-treatment-purchase-fund-must-come-before-public-accounts-committee\/","title":{"rendered":"National Treatment Purchase Fund Must Come Before Public Accounts Committee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Serious concerns about the oversight of NTPF funding must be addressed\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The executive team of the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) must urgently appear before the Public Accounts Committee to answer questions about governance and oversight arrangements at the body, according to Social Democrats TD Aidan Farrelly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe budget of the NTPF has increased exponentially in recent years and now stands at more than \u20ac220 million this year alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, recent scandals at Children\u2019s Health Ireland have raised serious concerns about the NTPF\u2019s oversight of the allocation of public money for insourcing treatment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, the NTPF itself is clearly not confident that adequate monitoring arrangements are in place given it has now suspended all funding for insourcing at CHI.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis unprecedented action inevitably raises further questions for the NTPF about the adequacy of these arrangements not just at CHI, but across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also prompts major questions about the level of oversight that is brought to bear when outsourcing of treatment is funded, in the private system, by the NTPF.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI welcome the fact that the NTPF has now commenced a review of its operation at CHI but it must come before the Public Accounts Committee, at the earliest opportunity, to detail the results of that review.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt must also provide assurances that the problems identified in insourcing at CHI are neither replicated across the country nor repeated when it comes to outsourcing treatment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have therefore written to the Chair of the PAC today requesting that the NTPF be added to our work programme for the duration of this term.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Serious concerns about the oversight of NTPF funding must be addressed\u00a0 The executive team of the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) must urgently appear before the Public Accounts Committee to answer questions about governance and oversight arrangements at the body, according to Social Democrats TD Aidan Farrelly. \u201cThe budget of the NTPF has increased exponentially [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":11557,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[396,11,7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-12617","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-aidan-farrelly","category-health","category-press-release"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.3 -
