{"id":1872,"date":"2022-08-08T12:27:53","date_gmt":"2022-08-08T11:27:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.socialdemocrats.ie\/unreliable-pay-for-nchds\/"},"modified":"2022-08-08T12:27:53","modified_gmt":"2022-08-08T11:27:53","slug":"unreliable-pay-for-nchds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.socialdemocrats.ie\/ga\/unreliable-pay-for-nchds\/","title":{"rendered":"The Health Minister has failed to act on repeated warnings over unreliable pay for NCHDs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>If we ever want to fill the vacancies in our health service, then NCHDs must be treated with respect and dignity at work<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Minister for Health has been repeatedly warned that unreliable pay is a serious issue for non-consultant hospital doctors (NCHDs) but has failed to act, according to Social Democrats Health Spokesperson R\u00f3is\u00edn Shortall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is completely unacceptable that NCHDs, all over the country, are left unpaid for up to two months after they join a new hospital.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is especially egregious given the HSE is paying the salary of these doctors \u2013 no matter where they work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has been a persistent problem for years, but no action has been taken to resolve it.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In fact, I have repeatedly raised research with the Minister for Health, which has outlined that unreliable pay is one of a number of reasons why Irish-trained doctors are not retained or encouraged back to the Irish health service.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are currently more than 800 consultant vacancies in the health service.
