Social Democrats Councillor Jennifer Whitmore has been selected to contest the next general election for the party in the Wicklow and East Carlow constituency.<\/p>\n
Cllr Whitmore is a founding member of the Social Democrats and has represented the people of the Greystones Municipal District as a councillor since 2014. She is the party\u2019s spokesperson for Children.<\/p>\n
Cllr Whitmore said:<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really pleased and proud to have been selected to contest the next general election for the Social Democrats in Wicklow. I strongly believe that voters are looking for candidates who have integrity and vision, and who represent the values and issues they feel strongly about. I want to offer people a choice if they feel, like me, that change for the better is possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur communities face challenges in finding affordable housing and accessing decent health services, as well as education and childcare. The Social Democrats want to build a fair and decent society where everyone is able to achieve their potential. I am committed to offering a vision for change to build a social democratic republic based on the values of fairness, equality, growth and sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n
The party\u2019s co-leaders, R\u00f3is\u00edn Shortall TD and Catherine Murphy TD, joined Cllr Whitmore on a tour of the town of Bray this morning to meet voters.<\/p>\n
Deputy Murphy, whose own constituency of Kildare North borders Wicklow, said:<\/p>\n
\u201cI strongly feel that Jennifer will be a great public representative for the Wicklow and East Carlow constituency. As a councillor for the past few years, Jennifer has worked tirelessly with the community to help them access the facilities and services that they need, such as fundraising for an all new, inclusive playground in Greystones and working to get a youth centre for local teenagers. She has also brought her considerable policy and environmental expertise to bear and worked to protect Wicklow\u2019s environment and natural amenities such as the Vartry River.\u201d<\/p>\n
Deputy Shortall added:<\/p>\n
\u201cJennifer brings great energy and integrity to everything that she does, and I know that if elected to the D\u00e1il she will champion issues for investment in people, public services and a vibrant and sustainable economy. She has worked hard to promote north Wicklow as an innovation hub for a number of years now and is continuing to work with the Council and technology companies to make that a reality.\u201d<\/p>\n
