GREAT NEWS: The Save our Skibbereen campaign has been granted leave in the High Court in Dublin for a judicial review of the decision to build a plastics factory. It’s amazing that this community raised €16,984 to do so. It’s also crazy that we’ve had to. The factory, which was granted permission by Cork County Council – permission which was later confirmed by An Bord Pleanála is not only in direct conflict with Cork county councils local area plan, it simply goes against all things ‘West Cork’. The planning process needs to be overhauled yesterday. If this goes to the Supreme Court, it is expected to cost the local community in the realm of €150,000. I have no doubt that we can and will do whatever it takes and I hope that this case serves as a cog in the wheel of change in how we decide what we want in West Cork and nationwide. ...
