Meet Eoin

Eoin Hayes is the Social Democrats TD for Dublin Bay South.

A committed political campaigner, Eoin was a leader of the student movement against the government’s post-crash austerity policies and a dedicated campaigner during the Marriage Equality and Repeal the 8th campaigns. He joined the Social Democrats in 2017.

In the 2024 local elections, Eoin won a seat on Dublin City Council in the Kimmage-Rathmines local electoral area. He went on to win the Social Democrats’ first ever Dáil seat in Dublin Bay South in the 2024 General Election.

Eoin is a graduate of London Business School, and prior to taking his seat in the Dáil worked as a consultant helping small businesses to grow.

A firm believer in the principles of Social Democracy, Eoin is passionate about creating a strong, sustainable economy that creates opportunities for everyone and supports a state with the capacity to deliver outstanding public services.

Ireland is a great country with great people, but Irish politics needs to be more courageous. I believe there is a better way of leading the country to solve its most pressing problems, and our people deserve a standard of life consistent with any other European country – great public services, proper, well-maintained modern infrastructure, thriving small businesses, and a safe city.

Eoin’s Priorities

  • Delivering Homes for People, Not Funds – The state and councils must build affordable, social, and private homes for sale and rent.
  • Raising Families – Plan for changing demographics with childcare availability, timely investment in school facilities for all levels of ability, and investment in publicly accessible sports amenities.
  • Prioritising the Care Economy – Fully fund and implement Sláintecare, including ramped-up investment in mental health and disability services, so everyone gets the standard of care they deserve.
  • Infrastructure for the 21st Century – Accelerated expansion of Dublin’s rail network, improved flood defences, and clean water system investment.
  • A Safer Dublin for Everyone – Increase community policing, invest in youth facilities and anti-racism programmes, and strengthen social and mental health services.
  • A Resilient Economy – Focus on Ireland’s indigenous economy, fostering small businesses, start-ups, and innovation.
