Cian O’Callaghan is Deputy Leader of the Social Democrats and a TD for Dublin Bay North.
He was first elected to Dáil Eireann in 2020 having represented his local community as a councillor since 2009.
As the spokesperson for Finance, Public Expenditure and Public Service Reform, Cian’s priority is tackling the cost-of-living crisis. The most effective way to bring down everyday costs for people is to improve public services.
Cian has put forward proposals to invest in genuinely affordable housing, clean and cheap energy, proper disability supports, efficient public transport, and high-quality public healthcare.
Cian plays an active role in scrutinising and proposing legislation. He has put forward seven bills of his own and tabled hundreds of amendments to Government legislation.
Ireland has some of the highest living costs in Europe. We have the resources and the ability to invest in housing, infrastructure, and public services so that everyone can afford a decent standard of living. The Social Democrats have the will and the plans to make this a reality.”
