Dublin Bay North Social Democrats Cllr. Cian O’Callaghan has called for Irish Rail to put staff and security in place at Clongriffin Dart Station following today’s graffiti attack.

Cllr. O’Callaghan said:

“In what Irish Rail has described as an “unprecedented graffiti attack”, a group of people blocked the doors of a train with pieces of wood at Clongriffin Station at about 10.30pm last night, preventing the train from moving.

“The provision of Clongriffin Dart Station as a facility for commuters and the emerging surrounding communities should have been a success story for Irish Rail. However, the resources to staff the station were never put in and in a drive to cut costs Irish Rail has not deployed the level of staff and security at the station that is needed to make it safe, accessible and secure for all members of the travelling public.

“It is essential that Irish Rail abandon its failed experiment of a staff-less station at Clongriffin and put staff and security in place at least in the evening time when it is most needed. Failure to act now by Irish Rail will see a loss of commuters and revenue for Irish Rail. The Clongriffin area is set to grow rapidly over the coming years and the Dart Station should be a positive focal point for the emerging community.”
