The Minister for Children’s comments today that it may be possible to retrieve recordings of survivors’ testimonies highlights the importance of the Social Democrats’ Dáil motion calling for the extension of the Commission of Investigation, according to Jennifer Whitmore TD.

Deputy Whitmore, who is the party’s spokesperson for Children, said:

“It is bizarre that, nine days away from being dissolved, the Commission is scrambling around for files of survivor data that they believed they had deleted. This begs more questions than answers and fully supports my party’s calls for the Commission to be extended by one year to facilitate an examination of how they treated the survivors’ testimonies and stories they collected.”

Deputy Whitmore will be introducing the Social Democrats’ Dáil motion calling for an extension of the Commission next Wednesday.
