The Social Democrats have offered their public support to tomorrow’s Standing4Women demonstration which will take place outside the Dáil at 5p.m. with simultaneous demonstrations happening across the country.

Social Democrats co-leader Catherine Murphy TD said that the issues facing women in this country have for too long been swept under the carpet and not given the attention they deserve.

She said the world had looked on in awe as women had stood up to lead, and decisively won, the Repeal battle on Saturday but that battle is just one of many to be fought.

Deputy Murphy said:

“The CervicalCheck scandal has not gone away and nor should it. The women impacted are still fighting to have the supports promised to them implemented. Other women are still anxious about the cervical check process.

“This group has recognised the need for women’s voices to be amplified on this and many other issues and the Social Democrats are happy to support those voices and to join with them in calling for not just recognition of the problem but solutions and remedies.”
