Meet David

I’m David Kane, the Social Democrats Local Election Candidate for Piltown in South Kilkenny which includes Mooncoin, Kilmacow, Mullinavat, Ferrybank and Slieverue.

I have lived in Piltown with my wife and three sons for the last 23 years. This is a great place to live, but despite Ireland’s wealth, we face a housing crisis, a strained healthcare system, and inadequate public infrastructure.

In my 23 years at South East Technological University, I have held various roles and worked in collaboration with students, staff and the wider community – gaining extensive experience in stakeholder management, governance, and planning. Through my work, and in my own life, I have seen first-hand some of the immense challenges facing young (and old) people today, and I want to make a difference.

I am approachable, committed and receptive, and would love the opportunity to represent you on Kilkenny County Council.

By investing in dynamic youth programmes and creating welcoming, inclusive spaces, we can offer our people meaningful opportunities for growth, learning and recreation. Together, let’s build a vibrant, supportive environment where every young person can thrive and contribute positively to our shared community life.

David’s Priorities

  • Put accessible and affordable housing at the top of the agenda.
  • Advocate for more activities and spaces for young people.
  • Push for an improved and inclusive healthcare system both locally and nationally.
  • Ensure proper traffic calming measures are implemented in our communities, to make them more liveable and family-friendly.
  • Promote environmentally friendly policies and biodiversity.
