Meet Helen

I’m Helen Meaney, the Social Democrats Local Election Candidate for Firhouse-Bohernabreena.

It is time for real change, and as an experienced strategy consultant I believe I have the enthusiasm, skillset and dedication to deliver for the people I represent.

Originally from Ballinteer, alongside many of my generation I have been locked out of the housing market. As a long-term renter, I understand the challenges facing renters and first-time buyers.

I am passionate about human rights, sustainability, and the need for increased transparency regarding decision-making in public life.

In my work, I am required to solve complex problems and to challenge organisations and senior leadership teams to use innovative approaches to make meaningful and impactful changes.

Witnessing those close to me struggle to secure childcare has made accessible childcare one of my main priorities. Lack of affordable, accessible childcare is leading to significant pressures regarding finances and returning to the workplace for many working families.

I am deeply concerned about the impact the cost-of-living crisis is having on all households. I want to see increased support to offset these challenges, including investment in mental health services.

I am a firm believer in transparent and accountable leadership. I joined the Social Democrats to work together to achieve a sustainable future where all members of our society are cared for and invested in at every stage of their lives.
