I’m Hilary Tonge, the Social Democrats Local Election Candidate for Ennis.
I live in Ennis County Clare and I work for Woman’s Collective Ireland Clare. I believe the community needs to be central in identifying what it needs, and helps to shape solutions. I am Director of Mná ag Gáire women’s Community Hub in Ennis town, I am very proud of my achievements in Mná ag Gáire, which caters for 200 women a week and works towards combating loneliness and isolation.
As a member of the Mid-West Hospital Campaign, I have been involved in campaigning for better health care in Ennis and Co. Clare. There are stark differences in how health and care services are delivered in Clare and this campaign was designed to highlight the issues created by cutbacks in services in Co. Clare and the greater Mid-West region, with a demand for the re-opening of the A&Es in Ennis, Nenagh, and St. Johns in Limerick.
Our housing needs are still unmet across the County and is of upmost importance.
I believe in a Just Transition, to help the people of Clare to mitigate and adapt to climate change in a way that is equitable, fast and fair and shares the benefits and burdens equally.
I joined the Social Democrats, to work for a society that is equitable and fair, through the development of communities. I believe that local development processes must be inclusive, and benefit all the people of Clare, in a growing diverse population such as ours we must work to facilitate greater interaction within our community.
